EDGeS - Enabling Desktop Grids for e-Science - is a European project with the aim of creating an integrated Grid infrastructure that seamlessly integrates a variety of Desktop Grids with EGEE type of service Grids.
Do you know your computer is not working for most of the time? And that this unused computing power is lost forever? Now you can donate your unused computing time by joining one of the Desktop Grids connected to EDGeS.
On March 29/30, 2010 a major Desktop Grid event will take place in Almere, The Netherlands. The event combines:
3rd AlmereGrid Grid Experience workshop. The scientific part of this workshop concentrates on Desktop Grid Applications for eScience and eBusiness. A call for papers for this part has been issued.
The part Citizen support for eScience will have as the major part the EDGeS@Home launch announcement event, and several other Desktop Grid presentations
The Dutch Gridform.nl society will have their annual meeting
EDGeS connects more than 100.000 computers to EGEE creating one of the largest computer infrastructures in Europe
Budapest, 2009-12-14, The EDGeS infrastructure that connects Desktop Grids to EGEE and other Service Grids, announced that the total number of computers connected to the Desktop Grids in EDGeS, has surpassed the 100.000. This milestone shows there are significant additional computational resources available to European scientists that are connected to EGEE via the Bridge technology of EDGeS. The combined size of the Grids interconnected in this way is now over 250.000 processors - one of the largest European computational infrastructures. Read further...

EELA-2 project connects OurGrid to gLite over EDGeS Bridge
Budapest, 2009-12-07, the EELA-2 project has created a Bridge that connects the OurGrid middleware to gLite, the middleware that is also used by the large European EGEE Grid. This OurGrid-gLite Bridge is an implementation of the EDGeS 3G Bridge. Thanks to the new bridge, scientists in Latin-America can now seamlessly submit jobs to both Grids. When they do not have enough computing capacity on the gLite part of the EELA-2 e-infrastructure they can use the OurGrid resources. Read Further...

Symposium - Enabling Desktop Grids for e-Science and Industry
Slides are available. Click on programme on meeting site.
A short symposium Enabling Desktop Grids for e-Science and Industry did take place at the Congress Center Hamburg in Hamburg, Germany at the 24th International Supercomputing Conference (ISC'09), June 26, 14h00 - 18h00 in Room C.1. This event was an ISC'09 satellite meeting. The Annual International Supercomputing Conference is Europe's leading Conference and Exhibition on High Performance Computing, Networking and Storage. The 4-day conference, held 23-26 June 2009 at the Congress Center Hamburg, did provide you with a unique platform to learn, network, do business and joined this event.
Press Release - European interoperable Grid infrastructure expanding further
SEE-GRID-SCI and EDGeS to connect Grids Budapest/Athens, 2009-05-18, The EDGeS and SEE-GRID-SCI projects have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to connect the SEE-GRID infrastructure to other Grids using the EDGeS Bridge technology. EDGeS already connects Desktop Grids in several European countries, with the EGEE and EELA Grids. SEE-GRID-SCI project is a collaboration of Grids covering South-East Europe. Under the agreement, SEE-GRID-SCI and EDGeS will further collaborate on application porting and dissemination and training activities. Read further...
Desktop Grids make their entrance at Open Grid Forum
Catania 05 march 2009, OGF25 in Catania started with a tutorial on Desktop Grid computing and the EDGeS project. This marked the entrance of Desktop Grid computing in the Open Grid Forum that has a main focus on service Grids, such as EGEE. At the tutorial session it was explained how Desktop Grids can make the vasts amounts of unused computing time of companies and people at home available for scientific applications. By donating computing time, people can help science. The EDGeS project is bridging between Desktop Grids and Grids like EGEE. This allows scientists who are used to work within an EGEE environment to tap into a much larger pool of resources. The tutorial continued with an explanation of the applications already running on the EDGeS infrastructure and information on how to port scientific applications to EDGeS and Desktop Grids.
Real time video streaming and analysis now available in EDGeS and EGEE
December 22, 2008. Correlation Systems has completed its contribution to the EDGes project which means that video data can now be analyzed on the European Grid. ViSAGE is a real-time video analysis tool able to identify specific objects or behaviors within a video stream. The aim is utilizing this ability to create an international centre for processing television, Internet, CCTV video steams. Correlation Systems has finalized the porting of Video Stream Analysis in a Grid Environment (ViSAGE) to desktop grid environment as well as to EGEE.
Press Release - First EGEE III MoU signed by EDGeS in Istanbul - EDGeS also price winner at EGEE08
Istanbul 29 September 2008, EDGeS signed the first Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the EGEE III project. This MoU marks the start of a collaboration between the two projecs on technical, application and dissemination level. The first MoU of EGEE III was signed at the EGEE'08 conference in Istanbul by EGEE project director Bob Jones and Peter Kacsuk, Project Director of EDGeS from the Computer and Automation Research Institute, Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA SZTAKI). In signing its first MoU with EDGeS, EGEE III clearly shows that it considers EDGeS as the most important strategic partner project. EDGeS and EGEE III will collaborate on linking their infrastructures together and supporting applications on both service grids and Desktop Grids. Read the complete Press Release.
