You can connect several types of Grids to EDGeS:

• Desktop Grids. Based on BOINC or XtremWeb technology
• Service Grids based on gLite technology.

Desktop Grids in general run one or a few applications or projects. When you connect a Desktop Grid to a Servcie Grid, you can either use Service Grid resources for the same application. On the other hand you could give Service Grid users the possibility to run their jobs on your Desktop Grid.

If you operate a Service Grid, connecting a Desktop Grid can give your users more resources to run their applications. On the other hand you could run Desktop Grid applications on your Service Grid.

On Service Grids, users are organised in Virtual Organisations (VO's). It is also possible to connect a VO to a Desktop Grid.
