Call for papers
The call for papers is closed.
The scientific part of the AlmereGrid Desktop Grid Experience workshop is soliciting papers for this year's topic: "Desktop Grid Applications for eScience and eBusiness" on March 30, 2010.
The papers are peer reviewed. Accepted papers will either be given a presentation slot or a poster session slot.
Aim and Scope
Desktop Grids are becoming an integral part of the scientific computational infrastructure. They provide a vast amount of resources that are relatively inexpensive and green. Moreover they allow citizens and companies to donate unused computing time to science, and hence strengthen the relationship between citizens and science.
The integration of Desktop Grids in scientific distributed infrastructures, has been enabled by European projects like EDGeS and EELA2. The EDGeS project has integrated EGEE (gLite Grids) with Desktop Grids (based on BOINC and XtremWeb). The combined EDGeS accessible infrastructure contains about 250.000 processors. EELA2 has combined OurGrid based Desktop Grids with Service Grids.
Porting applications to these complex infrastructures, and to (Volunteer) Desktop Grids poses special challenges. Applications must be able to run on a variety of operating systems and computer architectures.
Operating Desktop Grids linked with other infrastructures and with multiple applications also poses new challenges.
The papers for the workshop should focus on the application porting and operating challenges of Desktop Grids for eScience or eBusiness. This could include, but is not limited to:
- porting of an application to a Desktop Grid
- porting of an application to an infrastructure that includes a Desktop Grid (such as the EDGeS, or EELA2 infrastructures)
- Issues in operating a Volunteer Computing distributed computing infrastructure
- Managing applications and application repositories
