Desktop Grid User Forum & Industry Forum

The EDGeS project tries to help  organise the  Desktop Grid community in Europe. There are two different communities:  A User Forum and an Industry Forum Click on "Available Communities" below to select one.

Industry Forum

The EDGeS Desktop Grid Industry Forum is an important part of EDGeS. It brings together persons from companies and other organisations interested in Desktop Grids, Service Grids  and in the developments of the EDGeS project. The goal of the Industry Forum is interaction between the members and between the members and the technology providers from the EDGeS project.

The Industry Forum provides the industry and other organisations with a platform to exchange infomatie and experience about Desktop Grids and EDGeS type of Grids.

Industry Forum topics are:
- How  industry  and ther nonc-academic communities can use Desktop Grids and EDGeS type of Grids;
- Collecting use cases, experience and other information on Desktop Grid use
- Provide industry an opportunit to express their views and requirements
- Case studies on Gridifying applciations

The focus is especially on organisations that operate, or intend to operate, Dsktop Grids. But also Grid applications will be discussed.

The Industry Forum's activities are:
- Organising bi-annual meetings.
- Community on the web, with:
    * news,
    * background information,
    * discussion platform and,
    * case studies.
- Assistance with setting up a Desktop Grid and connecting it to the EDGeS Grid infrastructure.
-Evaluate the EDGeS technical developments, especially in relation to indsutrial applicability.
 

The two applications support centres in the EDGeS consortium, i.e. GASUC, MTA SZTAKI and W-GRASS, Universitty of Westminster,  will help users to "gridify" and "boincify" their applications.

Membership

Membership is open to all non-academic organisatioms in Europe. You can apply for membership on the EDGeS website. If a membership cannot be accepted, the EDGeS consortium will let you know.

Steering Committee
A small Steering group will lead the User Forum and formulate recommendations to the EDGeS project consortium.

 

User Forum

The EDGeS  Desktop Grid User Forum is and important part of the EDGeS project. The User Forum brings together pesons from academic organisations and user communities that want to use Desktop Grids and the combined EDGeS Grid infrastructure.

The User forum  will  help the user communities belonging to different Grid technologies to better understand the characteristics of their applications and to find the appropriate Grid technology for them.


The goal of the User Forum is:
-Support users in migrating their applications to the Grid and developing new applications.
- Communicate project results. The dissemination activities will also address user communities, that  are not associated with the User Forum



The Desktop Grid User Forum is intended for people who have applications that run, or could run on a Desktop Grid or a combined Desktop/Service Grid.

The User Forum provides:
- two meetings a year to meet face-to-face with the Desktop Grid developers and other Desktop Grid users
- A directory with Desktop Grid resources
- A regular news feed on Desktop Grid developments
- Guidance with putting applications on the Grid.
- A Desktop Grid application development environment (2009)
Potential access to a European wide Grid with potentially a million computer nodes
